Surfshark just dropped a teaser on their website, and it has our attention. The company says it has been building something from scratch and in their words: a “different approach” to how a VPN works.

Details are thin right now, but here’s what Surfshark has revealed so far:
The new VPN protocol has already passed an independent audit by Cure53, which is a good sign for anyone concerned about privacy.
macOS users will get first access, though Surfshark hasn’t shared a timeline for other platforms yet. For those of us running VPNs on Firesticks and Android TV/Google TV boxes, the big question is when this arrives on our streaming devices.

This is one reason Surfshark has held the #1 spot in our VPN Rankings since August 2022. They don’t sit still. We see frequent updates from them, and now they’re investing in a ground-up protocol rebuild.
That kind of commitment to improving their product is hard to find in the VPN space, and it’s a big part of why we keep recommending them.
We’ll share more details once Surfshark makes a full announcement. For now, I’m curious to hear from you guys.
What do you think about Surfshark’s new protocol rebuild? What VPN features matter most to you? Tell us in the comments below.
