Greek police conducted a significant IPTV raid resulting in one arrest and charges filed against 68 end users.
The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate shut down an IPTV reselling network operating from Santorini in the Cyclades islands.
A 48-year-old individual was arrested at his residence after police discovered he was selling unauthorized access to premium pay-TV channels. The suspect charged customers €50 for three months or €100 for six months of service.
He managed sales through an online panel platform while providing remote and in-person technical support.

Police sent the digital evidence to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for analysis. The suspect faces charges for commercial exploitation of illegal IPTV subscriptions.
The operation’s scope affected hundreds of users across hotels, cafes, and homes throughout Santorini. Service disruptions were reportedly widespread as streams suddenly stopped working.
Under Greece’s new copyright law enacted two months ago, end users face serious consequences. Individual subscribers can receive fines up to €750, while commercial operators using illegal streams risk penalties reaching €5,000.
This represents a policy shift in Greek law enforcement. Previously, Greek authorities focused primarily on IPTV service providers. Now they’re pursuing both sellers and customers, similar to Italy’s approach with DAZN and Serie A.
Greek authorities are sending a clear message with this enforcement action. The 68 prosecutions represent one of Europe’s largest crackdowns on IPTV end users outside Italy.
However, it seems unfair to penalize consumers who have no practical way to verify if an IPTV service holds the proper licensing.
Many services maintain professional websites and marketing that make them appear legitimate, leaving average users unable to distinguish legal operations from unauthorized ones.
