An Argentine court has blocked more than 70 domains tied to pirate services Magis TV and Xuper TV. VPN use has skyrocketed as a result.

Judge Esteban Rossignoli also ordered Google to remotely disable side-loaded apps on Android devices connecting from Argentine IP addresses.
On February 10 and 11, thousands of users discovered both IPTV services had gone completely dark, with channel lists failing to load and apps vanishing from their devices.
Anyone trying to open the apps now sees this message: “Due to policy limitations, the account cannot be used in your area. Contact your retailer.”
This isn’t the first crackdown from Judge Rossignoli. Back in September 2024, he ordered ISPs to block 69 domains linked to Magis TV. After that action, Xuper TV popped up as an apparent rebrand. Now both platforms are targeted together under a broader enforcement push.
Argentina’s Specialized Unit on Cybercrime (UFEIC) coordinated the operation, which included raids and seizure of hundreds of IPTV boxes. Operators face up to six years in prison.

The effort is part of Operación 404, an international anti-piracy campaign led by Brazil’s Ministry of Justice. Chile has also ordered ISPs to block all sites carrying the Magis TV, Flujo TV, and Xuper TV brands.
As expected, the blocks sent users scrambling for workarounds like VPNs. Proton VPN posted a graph showing a sharp spike in Argentine connections on February 10.

We also checked Google Trends for Argentina and found a massive spike for ‘VPN’ and other related searches.

The Internet filled with workaround tips about connecting through Mexican servers to restore access. Some users are trying manual DNS changes on their smart TVs, though this method is becoming less reliable as copyright protection systems now use AI to identify pirate IPTV traffic in real time.
The timing is worth noting. On February 5, Argentina and the United States signed a trade agreement with strong intellectual property commitments.
Argentina agreed to “investigate and bring criminal proceedings against operators of Argentina-based websites that engage in commercial-scale copyright piracy.” Reports indicate the US pushed over 100 copyright-related demands during those negotiations.
Argentina’s crackdown on Magis TV and Xuper TV stands as one of the most aggressive anti-piracy actions in Latin America to date.
The immediate spike in VPN usage shows that users will always find workarounds, and operators will rebrand and resurface. We’ve watched this game of whack-a-mole play out for years and it will likely continue.
