DAZN is following through on its promise to pursue pirate IPTV subscribers in Italy. The company obtained names and addresses of 2,200 IPTV users from police records after authorities busted an illegal streaming operation.

These people already received fines from law enforcement for using the unauthorized IPTV service. Now DAZN wants an additional €500 from each person, claiming compensation for damages caused by their subscriptions.
Recipients received physical letters this week giving them just 7 days to pay or face legal action. The correspondence comes directly from DAZN’s Italy CEO Stefano Azzi rather than company lawyers.
We found a Reddit thread from someone who received one of these letters from DAZN and is asking for legal advice.

Several Reddit users replied to this thread noting how buying the official subscription ends up being more expensive in the long run.

Here is DAZN’s full letter translated in English:
“Subject: Illegal acquisition of IPTV services relating to packages for viewing live Serie A soccer matches
Dear Madam/Sir, in the context of criminal proceeding no. 7719/22 RGNR, filed with the Lecce Public Prosecutor’s Office, we have been able to ascertain that you unlawfully acquired the subject matter, in violation of the broadcasting rights (audiovisual rights, pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 9/2008) which belong exclusively to the undersigned Dazn Limited (“DAZN”), as licensee.
As a consequence of your unlawful conduct, a specific administrative sanction has been imposed on you by the Guardia di Finanza. DAZN, the injured party, was notified of the investigations carried out against you by the competent unit of the Guardia di Finanza on September 5.
Before undertaking legal action for compensation and protection, with a consequent increase in costs, DAZN intends to verify the possibility of a settlement of the incident, with a lump sum compensation payment of Euro 500.00 and your formal commitment not to engage in any further conduct that infringes the undersigned’s rights in the future.
Should you wish to proceed in this way, you may contact DAZN via the dedicated certified email address: conciliazione.antipirateria.dazn@legalmail.it. This option will expire 7 (seven) days after receipt of this letter, and DAZN will then be free to initiate appropriate legal proceedings without further notice.
Kind regards”
The message from DAZN is clear: “You’ve been caught, you’re guilty, and time is running out. Pay the €500 settlement now or deal with increasing costs through court proceedings.”
Those who can’t afford the payment face a difficult choice. Do they contact DAZN to keep settlement options open? Or should they seek legal counsel first – if they can even afford an attorney?
Here’s where things get complicated. Many IPTV subscribers genuinely don’t know whether their live TV service is legal or unauthorized.
Many pirate operations present themselves professionally with polished websites and legitimate-looking business operations.

Several unverified IPTV providers will also pay for press releases on notable outlets like Yahoo Finance or MarketWatch to manipulate credibility.
In some cases, even local government officials have approved IPTV reselling arrangements for services that turned out to be illegal. If elected representatives can’t tell the difference, how are regular people supposed to know?
Your online activity is monitored by your ISP, app/addon/IPTV devs, government, and all websites.

The big unknown is what happens when these cases actually reach court and users refuse to pay. Will judges sympathize with consumers who genuinely believed their service was legal, or will they side with broadcasters seeking damages?
History shows that suing your own potential customers rarely drives business growth and often damages brand reputation instead.
The outcome of these first courtroom battles could determine whether other rights holders follow DAZN’s playbook or abandon this controversial approach entirely.
