The notable streaming pirate Alejo Warles who was arrested by LaLiga has now gotten hired by an esports team just one month after his release from custody.

From Prison Cell to Professional Gaming

Alejo “Shishi” Warles, 25, ran the popular pirate sports streaming platform Al Ángulo TV. On August 20, Argentine police arrested him with help from LaLiga. The site had attracted millions of monthly visitors before authorities shut it down.

After spending three days behind bars, Warles gained his freedom on bail. Just one month later, professional esports organization 9z Globant hired him for their social media team.

Time Behind Bars

Police showed up at Warles’ door at 7:45 AM on that August morning. After his arrest, a LaLiga lawyer bought him yogurt before officers took him to the Paraná police station.

The next day, authorities transferred Warles to San Isidro Investigations headquarters. “It was like they were bringing Pablo Escobar,” he said about the heavy police escort.

Warles spent a day and a half in a cell with people accused of violent crimes. “I was there for a day and a half with murderers, thieves… But they were very kind to me,” he told local outlet El Entre Ríos.

Social Media Success During Crisis

His arrest actually helped his online presence grow. The Al Ángulo TV X account gained 15,000 new followers while Warles sat in jail. He went from 123,000 to over 138,000 followers during this period.

“I’m not going to reoffend with the websites, but I will continue working on social media,” Warles explained after his release.

Police seized his phone, computer, and other equipment for evidence. LaLiga announced they also confiscated virtual wallets and cryptocurrency used for advertising revenue. However, Warles claims his crypto wallet only held $263.

New Career Path

The 9z Globant esports team saw potential in Warles despite his recent legal troubles. The organization results from a partnership between 9z Team and Argentine tech company Globant.

Lucía Quinteros, the team’s main social media manager, said they considered his background carefully. “We hired Alejo, not the person who set up that project,” she told Entre Ríos. “We believe that, from now on, Alejo can pursue a different career path.”

Warles welcomed himself to the team’s social media account, calling himself an “idol, genius, and GOAT.”

Final Thoughts

This case shows how quickly fortunes can change in the digital age. While Warles still faces criminal charges and must defend himself in court, his arrest transformed into a career opportunity.

His story differs greatly from most pirate site operators who prefer staying hidden after legal trouble.

The criminal investigation continues, but for now, Warles has moved from streaming pirated sports to promoting professional gaming.
